WalletHub used 18 criteria, including average beer and wine pricing, fireworks display duration, and Fourth of July weather forecasts, to rank the 100 biggest US cities according to how well they balance cost and fun.
WalletHub also rated Las Vegas as "one of the best cities for affordable restaurants with at least 4.5 stars, making it great for grabbing a meal out on Independence Day."
Vegas also has one of the lowest rates of fatal crashes involving drunk drivers, making it one of the safest places to travel after drinking, according to WalletHub.
Top rankings in the categories of "Legality of Fireworks," "4th of July Popularity," and "Average Hamburger Cost" contributed to Las Vegas' meteoric rise to the top of the charts.
Despite dropping slightly in the rankings for "Walkability" (55th), "Duration of Fireworks Show" (43rd), and "Traffic Congestion" (38th), Sin City was still in the lead overall.
Newark (ranked 100th), Aurora, Colorado (ranked 99th), Laredo, Texas (ranked 98th), Cleveland (ranked 97th), and Jersey City (ranked 96th) were the top five places to avoid on July 4, according to WalletHub.
